Pirgos Griva | 2.324m

Pirgos Griva summit 2.324m is located on the SW-W side of Olympus mountain in between the summits of Rigas (2.140m) and Grivas * (2.394m – 2.360m).

The name of the summit was referred for the first time on a map of the geographical military service at 1934 and probably there might have been some kind of outpost – viewpoint.

The approach to the summit is very easy with the use of the forest road which starts from Kalivia village and ends at Christakis Refuge. You can also reach it, from Smeos summit (2.087m) following the red and white signs in about 1 hour (2km – 1hour, no path).

*Grivas: the name might have come from the Vlach dialect and means “Grey horse”, due to the wild horse herds that leave at the area. Another version refers that the name came from the name of a farmer that leaved on the area.
