Hotzas | 2.600m

Hotza summit is located on the NW side of Mount Olympus at an altitude of 2.600m. Its name comes from the Turkish word hoca = master, teacher.

Various names have been given to this peak. In documents about mountaineering of 1953 it is mentioned as Hotza, as it is now known to the locals. The latest maps (1970) of the General Army Service are referred to as Terpsithea. Marcel Kurz in 1923 gave to the summit the name Kafeneio*, while on some maps and articles it is mentioned as Diakoptis.

* A word of Turkish origin, "kafe-hane"= where coffee is served.
