Kardaras | 2.451m

Kardaras summit (2.451m) is the SE end of Flabouro summit (2.473m) and it is located on the NW side of Olympus mountain with altitude of 2.451m.

There are not many information for this summit, nether how and where from took its name. Marcel Kurz, a Swiss topographer and mechanic who visited Mountain Olympus and mapped the area, refers the summit in his book "Le Mont Olympe" (1923), saying that through the large col through Kardara summit and coffeehouse (Hotza 2.589m), was gazing the rounded summits of Skolio (2.904m) and Christakis (2.706m).

One way of approaching Kardaras summit is via the forest road; which starts from Kalivia village and leads to Christakis Refuge (2.450m). The visitor needs about 40 minutes of driving to the mountain peak. The construction of the refuge had started at the early 80’s in order to serve the needs of the local farmers; it was completed in stages about ten years later.

Another way of reaching this summit is from Kokkinopilos village through E4 international hiking path (10km / 4 hours, the condition of the path is fairly well); or again through the village and in about 2km we leave E4 path and start following the sings to Roudi faucet and Kitros summit (2.422m), (9km / 4hours, the condition of the path is fairly well).
